updated 2:38 pm
The Wallowa County District Attorney's off ice has confirmed that an unidentified man was shot and killed by Wallowa County Sheriff's deputies Wednesday, Oct. 7 in the Boundary Campground approximately 11 miles up Bear Creek Road out of Wallowa.

According to the district attorney's office, officers from the Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police and Federal Law enforcement responded to a 2:30 p.m. report that a U.S. Forest Service employee had been approached and menaced by a male with a handgun. When officers made contact with the man, he produced a handgun and pointed it at the officers. The suspect was fatally shot by Sheriff's deputies at approximately 4 p.m. According to Sheriff Fred Steen, two deputies were involved in the shooting. No police officers were injured in the incident.

The body of the man shot will be transported to Portland to be examined by a coroner, Steen said.

The investigation of the incident is being conducted by the Wallowa county Sheriff's Office, the Oregon State Police and the Union County Major Crimes Team in accordance with Senate Bill 111 and the Wallowa County Use of Deadly Force Plan.

No further details have been released.

It is rumored that our good friend, Past Commodore and Chaplin of WYC Yacht Club in Portland, Frank Means was killed in a hunting accident on Thursday. Is it possible that the person you report shot by sheriffs officers in a camp ground on Thursday is Frank Means?
