Tonya Wallace
Nov. 17, 1966 —May 12, 2010
Tonya Lynn Bennett Wallace, formerly of Wallowa County, died suddenly at the age of 43 with loved ones at her side.

She was born in Ogden, Utah, to Alvin Richard Bennett and June Maria Grover Bennett.  The family soon moved to Alan's hometown, Union.

Tonya attended schools in Union and Wallowa Counties, graduating from Wallowa High School.  After graduation she entered the Peace Corps where she met her first husband Fred Swartout. The couple had two sons, Daniel and Andrew.

After divorce Tonya and the boys moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where she worked and went to nursing school.

She had a passion for helping others, which took her and the boys to various locations.  In early 2000s Tonya moved back to Oregon to be near family and friends and met and became engaged to Ben Hoffman. They were to be married in summer 2010.

Tonya was attending college with 2010 graduation in view at the time of her death.

She loved the outdoors; gardening, fishing, driving in the mountains, camping, and was a famous mushroom hunter who could find a mushroom where no one else could. She also enjoyed crochet and made afghans for family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel and Andrew; fiancé, Ben Hoffman and his daughters; father, Alvin; brother, Alvin Michael Bennett of Heppner and his wife Misty and their children; uncle and aunt Alan and Julie Bennett of Imbler; aunt and uncle Marilyn and Gary Moore of Malad, Idaho; uncle David Grover of Fairview, Utah; two half-sisters and extended family by marriage; as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother June Maria, grandparents, a nephew and other aunts, uncles and cousins.

At the family's request there will be a private celebration at a later date. To send condolences to the family or sign the guestbook at (www.burnsmortuary.com) Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in care of arrangements.
