Eighteen years ago, the friendship arbor was dedicated during Chief Joseph Days at the tepee encampment next to the rodeo arena, and once again it will be the scene of a big friendship feast and native dance gathering Saturday afternoon, July 24.

Nez Perce generate strong local presence today
While the Nez Perce - specifically the Wallowa or Joseph Band - was forced out of their homeland by the pressure of white settlement in 1877, their presence is felt more strongly today in Wallowa County than at any time since their expulsion.
