Funds for the project were matched 50 cents on the dollar by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Railroad gets $1M grant, mulls future of train

A temporary Wallowa Mountains visitor information center has been established at the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce Office across Highway 82 from the burned U.S. Forest Service building, the Forest Service announced Thursday, July 15.

In addition, three agencies that were in the burned building have been moved to the conference room of the Best Western Rama Inn and Suites next door to the Forest Service. They are the Wallowa Soil and Water Conservation District, Farm Services Agency and National Resource Conservation Service.

Meanwhile, Forest Service officials are scouring Wallowa County to rent office space.




The site of district headquarters of the U.S. Forest Service in Enterprise has been declared a crime scene following a spectacular, fast-growing fire that destroyed the two-story log building.
